Burst Bubbles (2001)

April 11th, 2009

Burst Bubbles

“So sick n’ tired of people trying to burst our bubbles!!!”,  Alert writes at the end of this bubble-style “Raws Alert” piece in Nottingham. Seems my aspirations were violent lime green and he was mainly dreaming of sausages.

Rare occasion when I timed myself painting – the evil bubble-burster character in the middle took me 12 mins.

Cryptic Raw (1997)

Cryptic Raw

This is a painting I made for my brother. It’s a little abstract, I wonder if you can work it out …

Negative-Positive Raw (1998)

March 11th, 2009

Dunkerque Raw

Another quickness in Dunkerque.

I used to like to hide extra bits of meaning in standard pieces. This one is a unassuming “Raws” straight letter but the arrows on the sides tell a little story. If the piece is the self then the arrow is how you deal with the world. These arrows are making a negative into a positive, a powerful life tactic.

I remember a local saying in profound disgust, “Dunkirk? That is how the Belgians spell it”.

Invadin’ Your Space (1999)

March 1st, 2009

I hadn’t heard of monsieur le Space-Invadeur at the time or I wouldn’t have done the concept.

This was at a great event called Fat Caps. It was in the back of a chip shop in Birmingham so it was bound to be good.

Left to right: A nice “Prime” tag that I cut the background in around, some space invader characters and a “SIN” mainframe style by yours truly, a pale devil of a “Skore” armed with gothic spearheads, an “FKS Bone” by the man and finally a “Raw” mainframe by me with more going down than up in the arrow department. I threw in an Asteroids background to bring it together a bit better.

Smoothly

February 24th, 2009

Can’t we all just get along? A quicky with Skore. I did a flowing style “Raws” in tranquil lake type colours with all the letters harmonising around each other. If only life could run so smoothly.

Grey Day (2001)

February 23rd, 2009

West London. I think everyone smashed it on this wall except me; I did mine way too small for some reason.

From left to right: it’s like the United Nations: a wicked Codak (USA), Dreph characters, Cruel (Australia), and then an organic “Raw” by me. The painterly mixed media background is Codak’s.

When Seak saw the “A” in my piece, he said, “I think that transparency will be the next big thing”. (sigh).

While we were there trying to get flicks – which was a nightmare with all the parked cars in the way – a local woman stopped to beef at us complaining that she’d have to look at it every day and she preferred the filthy wall that was there before. Welcome to Grey Britain.

Seak Skore Alert SHOK-1 Siks (2000)

February 20th, 2009

Selly Oak hall of fame in Birmingham.

Left to right:

Seak from Germany, like-father-like-son matching pieces by Skore, a fume character by me, an urban scorpion style “Raws” by me, Alert is willing to sacrifice with a “Pesto” piece and last up, a plump retro “Siks”.

Here’s a closeup of the character:

Anyone who paints at halls of fame soon learns not to leave their empty cans lying around (Solo One stabs his). Kids inevitably find them and fuck up your painting. At least that’s what everyone thinks. Here’s a shoking exposé – the guilty party is that last dreg of paint itself, rejected and left to rot in a steel case of emotion.

Street SINphony (1998)

January 11th, 2009

Leftmost piece, music note characters and music paper background by me.

Left to right: a Raw by me, then pieces by Skore, Kilo, and Skire.

I think this was the first time I used the sheet music idea.

Painted live at a unusually civilised gig in the town square of Dunkerque organised by my French friends Scien and Klor of 123Klan. They gave us good food in plastic bags and we had wine with the mayor.

It’s actually on the outside of a big wooden box but I shot it as a connector.

Egos Running Riot

January 10th, 2009

It’s a “Raw SIN” Mainframe style with icons of the four elements of hiphop.

It starts out wild and full of fight then gets itself back under control at the end. Calm yourself.
